Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

The notice period is one month. The notice of termination must therefore be received by the old health insurer by 30 November at the latest or by the last working day in November.

The deductible is the fixed contribution that must be paid each year towards the costs of treatment. Adults can choose a deductible of between CHF 300 and CHF 2500 (children between CHF 0 and CHF 600). If you choose a low deductible, you will pay correspondingly less for your treatment costs. However, your premium will be higher. If, on the other hand, you opt for a high deductible, although the cost-sharing amount is higher, you will pay a significantly lower premium. If you choose a high deductible of CHF 2500, you should be aware of the financial risk involved. In the worst-case scenario, you would have to pay up to CHF 3200 out of your own pocket in a single year (CHF 2500 deductible plus the maximum excess of CHF 700). If you opt for a high deductible, it is worth putting this amount aside in a bank account.

In addition to having the relevant amount of cash on hand, the most important factor in selecting the best deductible for you is your annual treatment costs. Experience shows that, as a rule, only two deductible levels make sense for adults. For annual treatment costs of up to and including CHF 2000, the highest deductible (CHF 2500) is ideal; for costs of over CHF 2000 a year, the lowest deductible (CHF 300) is the best option. A deductible of CHF 0 is generally recommended for children.

The excess is due after you reach your deductible limit during a calendar year. From that point on, you pay 10% of your treatment costs, up to a maximum of CHF 700 per year (children CHF 350). This excess is the same for everyone – regardless of their deductible.

You must include accident cover in your basic insurance in the following cases: 1) You work less than 8 hours per week for the same employer. 2) You are not or no longer working. This applies, for example, to housewives, students, pensioners, children and young people.
