Starting in 2029, a uniform retirement age of 65 years will be applied for both genders, women and men. For women, the retirement age will increase by 3 months each year starting in 2025, beginning at 64 years, until it reaches 65 years.

Who will be affected by the AHV reform?

As part of the AHV reform 21, compensation measures in the first pillar have been established for women born between 1961 and 1969, who belong to the transitional generation. These women will either receive a lifelong pension supplement if they do not take their old-age pension early or experience a reduced deduction if they choose to take their pension early. In addition, women in this transitional generation have the option to start receiving their AHV pension as early as age 62.

At what point in time does the AHV reform take effect?

The AHV reform 21 will come into effect on January 1, 2024. The gradual adjustment of the retirement age for women starts on January 1, 2025.

How does the AHV reform affect the pensions?

The AHV pension can still be claimed up to two years before reaching the retirement age, as was previously the case, and can be delayed by up to five years. One difference now is that early benefits and postponements can be made on a monthly basis rather than exclusively annually. Adjustments to pension deductions or surcharges in the case of early claims or postponements are based on the average life expectancy and are accordingly reduced. Furthermore, it is now allowed to choose a partial withdrawal of the old-age pension (at least 20%, up to 80% of the full amount). A one-time increase in this partial withdrawal is permitted, after which the remaining portion of the pension must be claimed in full. Thus, a total of three steps can be taken.
